BoundTree Medical - Henniker Office/Distribution Center
Bound Tree Medical was founded in 1978 by David Currier in Henniker, New Hampshire. The small medical product supply company grew over the years and merged with ALS, in Tempe, Arizona in 1995. The combined organization, called Bound Tree/ALS, merged with Parr Emergency Products located in Galloway, Ohio in 2001. When Bound Tree/ALS and Parr Emergency Products merged, the name of the business was changed to Bound Tree Parr, LLC. At this time, the Galloway location became the headquarter office and Henniker and Tempe remained as Distribution Centers for the organization.
At the end of 2001, Bound Tree Parr acquired PMX Medical, the emergency medical business of Pro Med Company, located in Salt Lake City, Utah. At that time, Bound Tree Parr changed its name to Bound Tree Medical, LLC.
In 2002, Bound Tree Medical and Sun Belt Medical Supply, Inc. entered into a long term strategic agreement for the supply of pharmaceuticals and related products to the pre-hospital marketplace. This agreement resulted in the ability to offer not only industry-leading medical equipment and supplies, but also pharmaceuticals and specialty I.V. therapy products for emergency medical providers.
To further its growth in the emergency medical products industry, Bound Tree Medical and Emergency Medical Products (EMP) merged in 2003. Most recently, Bound Tree Medical and Tri-anim Healthcare Service merged creating the nations leading distributor of specialty healthcare products. This merger in 2008 resulted in a new parent company named Sarnova which overseas Bound Tree, Tri-anim and related companies. Sarnova is led by industry veteran Craig Davenport.
Today, Bound Tree Medical continues to focus on distributing emergency medical equipment and related supplies to Emergency Medical Service Units, Fire Departments, Police Departments, Hospitals and various pre-hospital service organizations throughout the United States.
How the company was named
As with any start-up company, establishing a corporate name is a challenging proposition. For Bound Tree Medical, the goal was to come up with a name that had some historical significance to the community where the business was founded: Henniker, New Hampshire ( “The only Henniker on Earth”).
In 1978, the company’s founder, David Currier, was serving as a Henniker Selectman. Under New Hampshire law which has been on the books since the early 1700’s, Selectmen were required to perambulate the town boundaries at least every five years with the Selectmen from adjoining towns. As one would surmise, they must not have been very trusting back then. During the perambulation, the Selectmen arrived at a Henniker historic landmark, the bound tree. This large white oak, which marked the boundary between Henniker, Hopkinton, and Warner, was Henniker’s northeast boundary point. This boundary point had flourished as a guidepost since 1752 when Town No. Six was surveyed by Matthew Patten. The historical significance of the tree and all that it represented prompted David to name his new business “Bound Tree Corporation.”
This guidepost had been getting increasingly fragile over the years, so during the 1976 Bicentennial celebration a sapling from this magnificent tree was planted at the Town Hall to preserve its history. In late 1997, the bound tree finally gave in to the elements and had to be taken down. Bound Tree Corporation preserved a large piece of the tree and it currently sits outside the door of the entrance to Henniker Distribution Center.
